Dear Barb,
As you probably remember, I came to my first Festival of Writers when my series of books (Coastal British Columbia Stories) was just beginning. Since then, the series has expanded to four books, and the Festival’s part in that growth has been critical. The knowledge I received from the great presenters that the Festival has been able to attract has helped me develop my writing and publishing skills. Networking with Festival attendees has been particularly helpful in the growth of my small company, Powell River Books.
One of my favorite memories of Festival activities is the amazing morning we were able to spend with Howard White of Harbour Publications. The opportunity to interact with such a well-known regional publisher in a seminar atmosphere was extremely valuable to a new author like me.
Sincerely,
Wayne J.
"The Writer's Festival held at Oceanview was most appreciated and very beneficial for our students. Student participation in the writing aspect was especially motivating and it was great to have the external critiquing from your organization. The 'real' authors who presented provided a chance for our students to experience the career aspect of writing as well as the fine work of these published artists. Thank you for the opportunity to include our students. We look forward to next April when we will again be eager to include you as part of our 'Literacy Day'."
"Many, many thanks for including me in the PR Writers Festival. I thought the whole weekend was excellent. Your are an extraordinary organizer and everything about the festival had such class. Best of luck with next years. If you need a few lines of endorsement for sponsors or anything, just let me know."
"Did I enjoy myself? I had a ball. A very BIG congratulations must go to Barb and her supporters and volunteers for the very professional job making the festival a huge success and bigger and better than 2004."
"Many books launched their fates over the weekend. We heard great pieces read and listened to every juicy word. And characters? There were plenty, including a man in tights (aka Shakespeare), a dog and his human in a dog costume and writers across all ages and interest levels. We attended high quality workshops that really got you thinking about writing, freelancing, flexing your poetry muscle and revising. It was great!"
